About the event
From August 27-31, we attended the 12th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences in Niagara Falls, Canada. This congress, established in 1993, brings together multidisciplinary stakeholders from academia, industry, government, and non-profit sectors to advance the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement).
Summary
As part of the ‘Refinement and Impact on Science’ session, we convened a symposium on ‘Reducing severe suffering – time for a strategic approach’. The well-received symposium comprised a series of presentations by internationally renowned speakers from industry and academia, followed by a panel discussion. The symposium introduced attendees to our Roadmap, with real-world case studies demonstrating how its use can successfully reduce severe suffering through the implementation of refinements.
