About the event
On 13-15 September we attended the 9th Asian Federation of Laboratory Animal Science Associations (AFLAS) Congress in Jeju Island, South Korea. The event, organised by AFLAS and the Korean Association for Laboratory Animal Science, brought together delegates from academia, research institutes, industry, and government.
Summary
We were invited to co-organise and chair a session on ‘Avoiding and reducing animal suffering – opportunities for implementing the 3Rs’. The session included talks from individuals in academia and industry, and covered topics such as improving experimental procedures and animal care practices, Korean resources on the 3Rs, and global initiatives aimed at transitioning away from the use of animals in science. In addition, as part of this session, we gave a presentation, sharing information and the impacts of our initiative aimed towards ending ‘severe’ suffering.
